Located
on the shores of Rupert Bay at the confluence of the
Nottaway, Broadback, Rupert and Pontax rivers, Waskaganish
- little house - was a popular meeting place for communities
established in the interior. Also known as Fort Charles,
Fort Rupert and Fort St-Jacques, it became in 1668 the
site of the very first trading post established by Pierre-Esprit
Radisson and Médart Chouart, Lord Des Groseilliers.
This coastal community is accessible by road since 2001.
While you are here, stop to admire and purchase one
of the famous Cree decoys or a Cree/Japanese canoe made
by Cree Yamaha Motors.
