The shores
of the Waswanipi River border the most southerly Cree
community of the James Bay territory: the village of
Waswanipi - lake where fishing is done by torchlight-.
In 1846, an Anglican mission settled on a small island
in the northern part of the lake, the former location
of the village. Dispersed by the closing of the local
trading post and the opening of a railroad between Chibougamau
and Senneterre at the start of the 60s, the population
resettled the village at its present location in 1976.
From the bridge, you can admire the peaceful waters
of the Waswanipi River.
