The hamlet of Desmaraisville was established on the fringes of the Canadian National Railroad linking Abitibi and Lac-St-Jean, via Chibougamau. The name, initially given to the post office of the community, was attributed to the hamlet in honour of Mrg. Aldée Desmarais, former bishop of the Amos diocese.
