The community of Radisson is perched on a small hill
at the very end of the James Bay Highway. Founded in
1974 to accommodate workers who were here to complete
the « Project
of the Century » , this is the only jamesian
community in Québec north of the 53rd parallel. Over
the years, the population of Radisson has fluctuated
according to the needs of the large construction sites
in the area. After the work was completed, lovers of
the Great North stayed on, thus ensuring the survival
of the young community. Located in the heart of the
La Grande hydroelectric complex, Radisson offers a full
range of services and warmly welcomes tourists, fishing
groups, hunters and lovers of the great outdoors.
Radisson is also home of the largest underground hydroelectric
power station in the world, the
ROBERT-BOURASSA Complex.
Radisson
is connected to the Province by the James Bay Highway
via Matagami and
by the Route du Nord via
Chibougamau
From a birds eye view, Radisson is located halfway between
Montreal and the
Extreme North of the Province.
Several sporting and cultural services are located inside
the Pierre-Radisson Complex
where a semi-Olympic swimming pool is found, a
double gymnasium and an arts & crafts workshop.
Scheduled flights are offered from Montréal, Val-d'Or and Radisson.
